One shoot gives an artist a look. Nine months gives them a record of the change — which is what Amaya Jane's engagement produced, and the only deliverable a label, a booker or a weekly feed can actually use.

Nine months is the mechanism
A transformation you can see requires frames from before it — taken when there was nothing to announce and no reason to shoot. That is the only hard part. The material that makes month nine mean anything was captured in month one by someone who kept the appointment regardless.
The problem is rarely the music
An artist who is stuck usually is not stuck musically. The visual record has fallen behind where the work got to, so every room they walk into is reading them off an old picture. Development closes that gap deliberately instead of waiting for a release to close it.
Somebody has to hold the calendar
Most development plans produce exactly one shoot, because after the first one nobody owns the next date. A standing schedule and an assigned lead is the whole difference between a body of work and a folder from last spring.
