A returning artist raises the floor
The first video sets a look, and the second is measured against it by the same audience. Nothing can be recycled and nothing can be unrecognizable, which is a narrower opening than a first video ever has. It is also the reason most catalogs look like four different artists wearing the same name.

The treatment, the camera and the edit sit in the same place here. There is no handoff, so nothing gets lost being explained to whoever comes next, and a shot that stops working on the day can be replaced by someone who knows exactly what it was carrying.
What a music video has to survive
It will be watched on a phone, muted, at partial attention, and cut into short pieces by people who never asked. A video that only works at full length with full attention has already lost most of the people it was made for — so the frames have to read small and the hook has to arrive early.
