Corporate Headshots

A headshot day is a logistics problem wearing a photography problem's clothes. The light is set once and holds all day. What decides the result is whether each person can be at ease for the short time they are actually in front of it.

What a headshot day actually involves

One setup, then a schedule. People arrive between meetings, sit, and are gone again. Add up what a headshot day actually costs a company and almost none of it is the invoice — it is everyone's morning, which is why the day is built so that nothing about the lighting or the background gets renegotiated for anybody. The schedule is the quality control, not the camera.

  • One lighting setup
  • Rolling schedule
  • Consistent background
  • Matched crop

Everyone has to match

Build a leadership page out of headshots taken on different days and one person will read as having joined later. Different light, different crop, different background — nobody itemizes it and everybody notices. Matching the set is the reason it is one day and one setup.

The person who hates having their picture taken

Every company has one, and the whole set gets judged on their frame. It is a time problem rather than a technique one: the picture that works is almost always the one taken after they stopped performing, so the schedule has to leave room for that to happen.
